While you are on a selfdrive tour, if your road passes through the Aegean region, you should see Pamukkale travertines and Pamukkale Thermal Pools.

Hot springs in Pamukkale, which has been used as a spa and healing center for 2300 years, are still full of people coming for treatment purposes today. Pamukkale’s means is Cotton Castle.

These thermal waters and minerals inside give Pamukkale its white appearance. The temperature of the thermal waters in the region varies between 35 and 100. When contacted with oxygen, calcium carbonate in the water reacts and precipitates. This is the residue that we feel under our feet in the travertines. Over time, this gel-like residue hardens and forms travertines. Likewise, it begins to cover the places where it flows. Don’t end your tour of Turkey without seeing the travertines in Pamukkale, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

This Is A Specially Protected Site

As you know, Pamukkale Travertines is the second natural site of Turkey, like Cappadocia, included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. UNESCO provides financial support for the protection of this region and requires certain conditions.

Spa tourism hotels provide service a few kilometers away from the travertines of Pamukkale.

There are conditions for visitors. For example, you cannot enter the terraces of travertines. You only walk in the area reserved for you without shoes. Those who wish can swim or sit in the travertines. Several terraces where you can experience hot water are open, you cannot enjoy thermal water anywhere you want. These measures are very important to ensure that the World Heritage is not lost.
